President Donald Trump raised more money than Joe Biden in July, after falling behind his Democratic rival for two straight months.
Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee reported that they raised $165 million last month — an amount they said eclipsed any single month in all of 2016. July was the largest online fundraising event so far, the campaign said.
Biden’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee, meanwhile, reported $140 million in July. The overwhelming majority of donations — 97 percent — were at the grassroots level, with the average contribution coming in at $34.77, the campaign said.
Trump’s campaign also reported having more cash on hand than Biden, with $300 million in its war chest to Biden's $294 million. Still, Biden’s on-hand cash increased by $50 million compared with the previous month, his campaign reported.
The RNC also announced a spate of new hires, including 300 field staffers, bringing the Trump reelection effort to a total of 1,500 employees.
