DaBaby, Roddy Ricch lead BET Hip Hop Awards nominations

DaBaby and Roddy Ricch are leading the pack in the award nods for the virtual show airing in October

DaBaby and Roddy Ricch held down the top two most-nominated slots for the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards nominations. BET announced the nominations in a press release today.

DaBaby, the 28-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina based rapper who released his debut studio album Baby On Baby in 2019, was nominated for 12 awards. The categories included Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, Hip Hop Artist of the Year, and Impact Track, earning two nominations each in the Song of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video, and Best Collab categories. The rapper made BET Hip Hop Awards history with two nominations for Hip Hop Album of the Year for Blame It On Baby, and Kirk.

Compton rapper Roddy Ricch, 21, scored 11 nods, putting him right below DaBaby as the shows’ top nominees. Ricch, already the winner of a Grammy Award this year with the late Nipsey Hussle for “Racks in the Middle,” scored a number one Billboard single with “The Box” from his 2019 release Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial.

DaBaby and Roddy Ricch collaborated on the hit single “Rockstar” and its “BLM Remix” version this year.

Megan Thee Stallion and Drake each scored eight nods, with Future right behind them with six. Beyoncé, DJ Khaled, and Travis Scott all received three.
