A Celebration Recognizing Today’s Black Man Kicks Off at the Black Men XCEL Summit in Miami

Black men are rising through the ranks of corporate America, ascending to unimaginable benchmarks, and using their wealth and knowledge to empower their communities. That’s why now is the perfect time to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of the black men that we revere and idolize. Today marks the beginning of the BLACK ENTERPRISE Black Men XCEL Summit, an annual four-day gathering of inspiration and enlightenment that recognizes the contributions, leadership, and excellence of black men. This year’s event, sponsored by FedEx, is at the JW Turnberry Miami Resort and Spa, which offers guests luxury rooms, a world-class spa, top-notch golf courses, a waterpark, and much more.

Now in its third year, Black Men XCEL uplifts men of color by enriching them with opportunities to learn and network while spoiling them with leisure, fun, and relaxation. The festivities begin tonight at the annual XCEL Awards, which pay tribute to innovators, trailblazers, and game changers who have risen to astonishing heights in their respective fields. This year’s honorees include civil rights icon Rev. Jesse Jackson, legendary soul singer Eddie Levert, National Urban League President Marc Morial, and NFL Hall of Famer and groundbreaking entrepreneur Jerome Bettis.

The 2018 Black Men XCEL Summit (Black Enterprise)

The festive celebration will continue throughout the week with a variety of thought-provoking sessions, workshops, and social affairs for both black men and the women who love them. The event serves to enhance appreciation of today’s black man and reinforce the important role women play in strengthening his capacity for excellence and leadership. Black Men XCEL will also feature empowering luncheons, live comedy, a concert, a golf tournament, and a pool party. There’s also BE’s signature barbershop debate and a “Mars vs. Venus” battle of the sexes trivia challenge, sponsored by Cricket.

Notable speakers include NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, former NBA player Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway, actor Flex Alexander, and award-winning singer Anthony Hamilton. Plus, great entertainment will be provided by Capone (“the gangster of comedy”), comedian Chris Spencer, R&B hitmakers 112 and Jagged Edge, and more!
