11-year-old girl with Down syndrome allegedly struck by her teacher

The family of an 11-year-old girl with Down syndrome is demanding answers after the child was allegedly hit by a teacher at her South Fulton County, Ga. school.

Candise Dorsey, the aunt and legal guardian of Kalani, told WSB-TV 2 that Sandtown Middle School has not investigated the Sept. 24 incident, and that her niece is still traumatized by it.

“She was balled up crying, really wasn’t herself to the point she started vomiting,” Dorsey told Channel 2 News. “She did not want to go back to the school.”

“I later found out from the doctor that the vomiting was due to the trauma of her being hit,” Dorsey added in the interview.

Kalani, who has a speech impediment, was allegedly struck by her special needs teacher. According Dorsey, the blow left a bruise on her back. When she asked her niece if she was hit by someone, Kalani told her that she was, and gave her the teacher’s name.

Dorsey has since emailed school officials, finally getting them to agree to ask the girl if someone hit her.

“Kalani was shown every single one of her classmates and Kalani was also shown all her teachers. Kalani pointed out to her teacher,” Dorsey told WSB-TV 2.

The school district’s response was to offer to move Kalani to a new school, which was unacceptable to Dorsey.

“Instead of moving the person who actually assaulted her, they’re moving the person who’s innocent. She’s the victim in this,” Dorsey explained in the interview. “There’s been no accountability.”

Dorsey said Fulton County Schools sent her a statement, which reads: “Fulton County schools always strives to provide an environment for all students that fosters opportunities to learn. We take all allegations seriously and will work with the family toward ensuring that goal in this case.”

WSB-TV 2 declined to name the teacher, since he has not been charged with a crime.

“From the time Lily was 3, I knew then she had a business mindset. At an early age, as she watched me build a successful business from the ground up, it exposed her to many possibilities and goals, so with that, we didn’t wait until she was an adult to help her pursue them.”

Lily Frilly offers hair bows, backpacks, lunch boxes, and events for girls—or as Lily likes to call them—little bawses in training (Lil BITs)!

And if you ask Lily, she’ll tell you she is the boss. “I own my own company. I don’t just like it, I love it,” exclaims Lilly. In fact, she is the youngest CEO ever to retail at the superstore.

For Adeleye, this accomplishment is one near to her heart as a mother and a businesswoman. “Being the first Mother/Daughter duo to hit shelves in one of the largest retail stores in the world is still surreal to us. It’s history. It’s life-changing and it should definitely be celebrated,” says Adeleye.

She also believes, “Many people don’t understand the importance of instilling ‘the NOW’ into children. Not in all situations do you have to wait until you’re older to pursue your dreams. Lily Frilly believes that children have the ability to meet their full potential at an early age and we hope people see our story as an inspiration to be innovative and step outside of the box.”

CNN employees stunned by the use of Morgan Freeman’s voice in video

CNN staff members are reportedly upset that their parent company, WarnerMedia, hired Morgan Freeman to narrate a portion of a video presented to investors this week.

According to Variety, the reason staffers are angry is because some feel that the recent allegations against Freeman by eight women, which include harassment and inappropriate behavior claims, should have automatically disqualified him from the job. Particularly since last May, CNN reporters An Phung and Chloe Melas investigated the allegations and released an in-depth story.

Now several anonymous staffers, who reportedly fear retribution if they reveal their names, tell Variety that WarnerMedia’s hiring of Freeman flies in the face of that reporting.

“It’s disgusting,” one CNN employee reportedly told the magazine. “So many of us were scratching our heads in shock, wondering how something like this could even happen.”

On Tuesday, during the presentation to investors, Freeman narrated the opening video.

The video was put together to show the individual accomplishments of AT&T, Warner Bros.’ and Turner – three companies that are now operating as one consolidated company. The five-minute video featured telephone and satellite imagery, snippets from hit movies like Casablanca, Harry Potter series, and television comedies and dramas such as Friends and ER. The video also highlights the work of CNN journalists. Freeman’s voice appears at the beginning of the video, which also includes John Stankey, WarnerMedia’s CEO, unveiling a new streaming service called HBO Max.

“Innovation: It can be born out of a single spark,” Freeman’s voice can be heard saying, according to Variety. “And this spark has spread to change our lives forever, connecting us instantaneously through the stars high above. Today, that spark is continuing to spread.”

Neither WarnerMedia or CNN responded to a request for comment, Variety reported.

In the CNN expose about Freeman, Melas revealed that the actor had acted inappropriately around her. “According to Melas, who was six months pregnant at the time, Freeman, in a room full of people, including his co-stars (Alan) Arkin and (Michael) Caine, shook Melas’ hand, not letting go while repeatedly looking her up and down and saying more than once a variation of, ‘I wish I was there.’ She says he also said to her, ‘You are ripe,’” according to Variety.

Melas and Phung also did not respond to an interview request, but one CNN employee told the magazine that hiring Freeman was “disrespectful” to Melas.

“Someone just wasn’t thinking, and didn’t do research, I guess.”

For his part, Freeman denied the CNN article when it broke last year. He reportedly said the allegations made against him were a misunderstanding and that he was trying to be humorous.

“Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent,” Freeman said, according to Variety.

“I did not create unsafe work environments. I did not assault women. I did not offer employment or advancement in exchange for sex,” Freeman reportedly said at the time. “Any suggestion that I did so is completely false.”
