Gabrielle Union Reportedly Fired From ‘America’s Got Talent’ For Speaking Out on Racial Issues

According to BET, actress Gabrielle Union has been fired from the NBC show, America’s Got Talent.

After making several complaints to executives at NBC regarding some racial issues, it’s being reported that Union won’t be returning to the popular variety show in January.

“‘America’s Got Talent’ has a long history of inclusivity and diversity in both our talent and the acts championed by the show,” NBC and series producer Fremantle said in a joint statement. “The judging and host line-up has been regularly refreshed over the years and that is one of the reasons for AGT’s enduring popularity. NBC and the producers take any issues on set seriously.”

Union took to Twitter to give thanks to all the support she has been receiving from fans and fellow celebrities as well.

Even Union’s husband, Dwyane Wade, chimed in with his thoughts regarding her job loss on his Twitter account.

Union has been getting a lot of public support and even a Democratic presidential candidate, Julian Castro, commented via his Twitter account, “Corporate America tells employees and consumers they take racism and sexism seriously. But often the person reporting the problem is hurt by management. Kudos to @itsgabrielleu0 for having the courage to speak out. Still waiting for answers from @nbc

Actress Ellen Pompeo chimed in through her Twitter account, “It’s unfortunate that @nbc the same network that protected disgusting men like Matt Lauer and punished women for speaking out or not putting up with it…has not changed their practices or culture. I support @itsgabrielleu commitment to speaking up to injustice. It takes courage”

Debra Messing, of Will & Grace fame, was just as vocal with her support, in spite of her starring in three shows (Will & Grace, Smash, and The Mysteries of Laura) on the peacock network. Her tweet stated, “environment is inconvenient when there is a huge money making machine that is involved. It is cowardice, greed, and protection of the status quo revealed. Being “hands off,” is inexcusable and reflects a laissez faire attitude toward systemic racism and sexism.@itsgabrielleu”

White woman accuses Black playwright of racism after viewing ‘Slave Play’

During a Q&A session following the performance of Broadway’s Slave Play, a white woman flew into a rage against Jeremy O. Harris, the Black, gay playwright, and told him she is tired of the narrative that white people are racist.

The thought-provoking and controversial play is about three interracial couples with troubled sex lives who seek out a therapy workshop that has them play the role of slave master and slave to try and resolve their sex issues. After Friday night’s performance, the woman shocked the crowd when she rose to her feet and slammed the play, according to BuzzFeed News.

In Twitter videos posted by audience members, the woman shouted that she “doesn’t want to hear that white people are the f—–g plague all the time,” BuzzFeed reported. She went on to state that she has been raped, arrested and has had her children removed from her home and told “as a single woman I’m not good enough to f—–g raise them.”

“How the f–k am I not a f—–g marginalized member of this god—- society,” she demanded of Harris.

“I never said you aren’t,” the playwright responded, according to BuzzFeed News. “I never once said that you as a white woman were not a marginalized person. But if you heard that in my play, I don’t know what to tell you. Perhaps read it or see it again.”

Audience goers couldn’t believe their ears.

“My jaw was on the floor,” said a woman who only identified herself as Sydney to BuzzFeed News. “It was really wild, but, in hindsight, I’m not surprised at all that a white woman completely freaked out and couldn’t handle the emotions she was feeling.”

Sydney said other white people seemed to agree with the woman’s outburst while many others booed and hissed their disapproval.

“She just freaked out,” Sydney told BuzzFeed News. “The videos don’t do it justice. She went off on him…she was screaming at the top of her lungs. She could not handle her own guilt or responsibility in her own feelings and she demanded that Jeremy help explain and handle her feelings.”

The unidentified woman apparently wasn’t appeased by Harris’ response and reportedly kept screaming that she was tired of people saying a “whole bunch of stuff about how white people don’t get how racist they are,” and about what happened “300 years ago,” according to the news site.

“This isn’t every white person,” Harris responded yet again. “This play is about eight specific people and if you don’t see yourself up here, that’s great. You aren’t one of them… these are eight specific people that are in a play, which is a metaphor for our country.”

We’re just wondering if she knew beforehand what the play was about.

White fragility is a thing.
