Tiffany Haddish says ‘Girls Trip’ cast talked sequel on video chat

Tiffany Haddish recently revealed that while being quarantined at home, she found a little time to chat on Zoom with her Girls Trip castmates. The ladies discussed not only their off-screen lives but the possibility of continuing the storyline of their on-screen characters.

During a recent interview with HuffPost, Haddish dished on how she’s staying sane during the coronavirus pandemic, including a two-hour video chat with her Girls Trip costars Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Regina Hall, where the ladies brainstormed ideas for a sequel.

In Girls Trip, the ‘Flossy Posse’ captured the audience with their dramatic, yet humorous trip to New Orleans. The 2017 blockbuster took the girl-gang to a fictional ESSENCE Festival and provided an on-screen representation of Black-womanhood in an unprecedented manner. The film was also Haddish’s breakout role, introducing her to a new class of fame and celebrity.

While an official sequel has not been cemented by Universal Studios, the cast is on-board for reviving their roles and has hinted at the possibility of a sequel since 2018.

During an interview with HuffPost, Haddish shared that Kenya Barris, who co-wrote the original with Tracy Oliver has a treatment ready, however, no script has been submitted and things such as cost are playing a factor. Overall, the four women hope to bring their idea to life, one way or another.

“We might decide not to even make it ‘Girls Trip,’” Haddish said. “Maybe we’ll do a different story just in case no one wants to make ‘Girls Trip 2,'” says Haddish.

Chris Cuomo hosts first show while quarantined in his basement

CNN’s Chris Cuomo, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, broadcast his show Tuesday night from his basement.

Cuomo, 49, who is the brother of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, tried to assuage concerns by assuring viewers he is alright and will continue with the self-isolated broadcasts in his home. He also warned them: “You don’t want to get this.”

“I tested positive. Scary, yes, as you might imagine. But better me than you,” Cuomo said Monday night, according to The New York Post.

Cuomo also said when he first learned he tested positive for COVID-19, his concern immediately jumped to his family and whether he had infected them. That thought would have hurt him “way more than anything the virus can do,” Cuomo told viewers through an emotional voice.

“So let’s focus, let’s use this example of me having it as proof that you can get it too, god forbid, we have to do everything we can to avoid being sick,” Cuomo said. “We have to do it for ourselves, our families, and for those on the front lines who are saving the lives of people like me and many of you. Together as ever as one. That is our remedy.”

Cuomo also told viewers not to get “caught up in the numbers,” which are growing rapidly. He told them not to fear, but to focus on the fact that more people are getting tested and treated.

“This is a fight, it’s going to get worse, and we’re going to suffer,” Cuomo warned. “And you have to accept that not with fear, but with almost a fanatical sense of passion to fight, because that’s the only way you’ve ever made it through anything hard in your life, and this will be no different.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Cuomo.

Susan Rice says Trump ‘can’t stomach strong black women’

Former National Security Advisor Susan Rice has had enough of President Trump attacking and berating PBS correspondent Yamiche Alcindor during daily White House briefings.

Rice took to Twitter to call Trump out on his belittling behavior and said she sees it for what it is – insecurity in the face of an intelligent and assured Black woman.

Rice retweeted a March 29 post from Alcindor following that day’s White House coronavirus media briefing: “President Trump today at the White House said to me: ‘Be nice. Don’t be threatening.’ I’m not the first human being, woman, black person or journalist to be told that while doing a job. My take: Be steady. Stay focused. Remember your purpose. And, always press forward,” Alcindor wrote.

Rice couldn’t agree more. “You go, girl,” President Obama’s security advisor tweeted back at Alcindor. “Pathetic when insecure men can’t stomach strong black women.”

“Trump is really telling us that he is afraid of Yamiche. He feels threatened by her,” responded Jess to Rice’s tweet.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Rice accused Trump of targeting “strong women.”

“Because he has a particular problem, it seems, with Black women. But I think as was pointed out in your earlier segment, it’s a problem that applies to women with strong personalities and a willingness to stand up for themselves and their beliefs across the board,” Rice told Mitchell.

When Fox News contacted The White House about what Rice tweeted they received no response.

Obama throws light jab at Trump over coronavirus denial

Former President Barack Obama took a jab at the Trump administration’s delay in responding to the coronavirus pandemic and urged Americans to vote in large numbers this November.

Obama’s clarion call was aimed both at President Donald Trump’s late response to the pandemic as well as his move yesterday to relax fuel-efficiency standards Obama put in place to reduce carbon emissions.

“We’ve seen all too terribly the consequences of those who denied warnings of a pandemic,” Obama tweeted. “We can’t afford any more consequences of climate denial. All of us, especially young people, have to demand better of our government at every level and vote this fall.”

The tweet was noteworthy because Obama rarely offers up a negative critique, albeit in this case an implication, of another president.

In his tweet, Obama links to a Los Angeles Times article on the issue.

Trump continues to face criticism for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, which continues to spread, resulting in more than 3,100 deaths in the United States as of Tuesday. When word first surfaced of the coronavirus in China, Trump downplayed concerns here in the United States. Recently, he initially suggested that he would relax social distancing guidelines by April 12, which is Easter, to help the U.S. economy but later walked back those comments and said he urges Americans to continue to practice social distancing until at least April 30.

Obama’s remark comes as Trump relaxed fuel-efficiency standards for new model cars and trucks which Obama created in 2012 to fight climate change, according to The USA Today.

Obama wasn’t the only person dismayed to see Trump relax fuel-efficiency standards. Former Vice President Al Gore weighed in on social media and also linked the coronavirus pandemic to Trump’s latest move.

“The President is imposing a rule that will increase pollution by nearly a billion tons of CO2 & result in drivers paying more at the pump. Bad policy & reckless timing as Americans cope w/ a pandemic exacerbated by air pollution. He must be held to account” tweeted Gore.
